Deuces Video Poker Review |
 |
|
Deuces Wild was an interesting beast for the online world to wrap its mind around, mostly because of the ways in which it is different from Jacks or Better. Deuces Wild is the second most popular video poker game and the people that love it will play it exclusively, even more than they would Jacks or Better. For this reason, Deuces Wild is arguably a better test of online software programming than Jacks or Better and by most indications, the companies that have come out with Deuces Wild video poker games online (Microgaming, Playtech, etc.) have done a reasonably good job at their efforts. |

The main failing of Deuces Wild is the fact that the payout percentages tend to be quite abysmal in comparison to the offline game. It was actually possible with perfect strategy to find a Deuces Wild game that had a payout percentage of 102% offline. This means that over a long term period of time, you could actually end up winning money over time. There are in fact people that make their living playing Deuces Wild eight hours a day and seven days a week and while it can be quite difficult at times, there are people that excelled at it in the offline world.
This is not possible in the online world. The payouts for the different hands on maximum coins per hand have been changed enough that 97% or 98% would be the maximum payout percentage for a Deuces Wild machine online. In addition to that, where offline casino reward programs might give you an extra 1% or 2% of what you wager on a game, thereby allowing you to increase the theoretical payout percentage, the highest combination of Deuces Wild payout percentage plus rewards program that has been witnessed online is still less than 99%. This dramatic decrease in payout percentage is a big criticism of the online game, but unfortunately it is one that casinos deem necessary in order to protect themselves against automated programs playing perfect strategy and taking the money home.
However, everything else about the game appears to be top class. The software runs smoothly in most cases and the system resources that are used up by the software are negligible and should not affect the overall performance of a modern computer. In addition to that, interaction with the game is as easy as it would be offline, which shows the special attention to detail that programmers had when transferring Deuces Wild into an online video poker format. |
